Sfîntul Avdas a fost episcop în cetatea Suzei. El a fost omorît pentru Hristos în anul 418 de la întrupare, prin taierea capului în timp ce în Persia împaratea Izdigherd. Diaconul lui, Sfîntul Veniamin, a fost eliberat de tortionari cu întelegerea ca sa nu mai predice niciodata Evanghelia. La început diaconul a încuviintat, dar mai apoi inima lui nu 1-a lasat sa faca aceasta si el a început cu si mai multa rîvna sa predice din nou Evanghelia lui Hristos în popor. Pentru aceasta diaconul Veniamin a fost prins si omorît la trei ani dupa uciderea Sfîntului Avdas, în anul 421 dupa Hristos.
