Acest sfant era de fel din cetatea Anazervelor, care este a doua cetate din tinutul Ciliciei si era fiul unui demnitar grec si al unei mame crestine. Invatand de la mama lui credinta crestina si indeletnicindu-se cu citirea Sfintelor Scripturi, cand a ajuns la varsta de optsprezece ani a fost dus de catre altii inaintea ighemonului locului aceluia. Si neplecandu-se a jertfi idolilor, a fost batut peste tot corpul, dupa care a fost aruncat in inchisoare. Aducandu-si aminte aici de sfatul mamei lui, cand a fost scos din nou si intrebat, a raspuns ca staruie in credinta lui si vrea sa moara in credinta lui Hristos. Deci, fiind aruncat intr-un sac plin de nisip si de serpi veninosi, a fost lasat in mare si astfel a primit cununa muceniciei.
