Sfîntul Heliodor a fost din cetatea Maggido din Pamfilia şi a luat mucenicia pentru credinţa creştină în vremea împăratului Aurelian. Pe cînd era torturat bestial, el a auzit un glas din cer Care i-a zis: Nu te teme, căci Eu cu tine sînt! Fiind aruncat într-un viţel de arama înroşit în foc, el s-a rugat lui Dumnezeu, Care 1-a izbăvit din moartea aceea. Căci pe dată viţelul de aramă s-a răcorit, iar Sfîntul Heliodor a ieşit de acolo viu. Judecătorul a ţipat că aceasta este putere vrăjitorească. Dar Mucenicul a zis: „Puterea mea este Hristos." El a fost omorît prin decapitare şi aşa s-a înălţat către Domnul.
