Acest Sfînt Nil s-a născut la Morea. Fiind ieromonah, el a mers împreună cu unchiul lui la Sfîntul Munte Athos, şi acolo s-a nevoit pînă la capătul zilelor lui ca zăvorit la un loc muntos şi pustiu ce se numea „Pietrele Sfinte". Săvîrşindu-se el către Domnul, din sfintele lui moaşte a izvorît şuvoi de mir, care curgea din vîrful acelui munte şi se vărsa în mare. Acesta minune nemaivăzută a adus la acel loc oameni greu bolnavi de pretutindeni. Mulţimea lor atît de mult a tulburat liniştea unuia dintre ucenicii Sfîntului Nil, încît, rugîngu-se acesta Sfîntului, mirul a încetat pe dată să mai curgă. Sfîntul Nil Izvorîtorul de Mir a fost unul dintre marii asceţi ai lumii, asemenea marilor sfinţi pustnici şi făcători de minuni din primele veacuri creştine. El s-a săvîrşit către Domnul în veacul al şaptesprezecelea.
