Родум од племето Симеоново, од местото Елкесем, од онаа страна на Јордан. Живееше 700 години пред Христа. Двесте години после Пророкот Јона ѝ ја прорече пропаста на Нинивија. Од пророштвото на Јона Нинивјаните се беа покајале, заради што Бог ги поштеди и не ги погуби. Но со време тие заборавија на милоста Божја и повторно се развратија. Пророкот Наум им прорече пропаст. Па бидејќи не принесоа покајание, не беа ни поштедени. Од земјотреси, поплави и оган пропадна сиот град, така што ни местото веќе не му се знаеше. Свети Наум поживеа четириесет и пет години и се упокои во Господ оставајќи ја малечката книга со неговите вистинити пророштва.
