Ο Όσιος Κόπρις επονομάσθηκε έτσι, διότι η μητέρα του σε καιρό διωγμού και επιδρομής βαρβάρων, ενώ έτρεχε και αυτή να φύγει, την έπιασαν οι πόνοι του τοκετού στο δρόμο και γέννησε τον όσιο πάνω σε κοπριά!
