Εδώ τα πράγματα είναι λίγο συγκεχυμένα. Άλλες πήγες αναφέρουν αυτή τη μέρα τη μνήμη Ιουστινιανού και Θεοδώρας και άλλες Ιουστίνου και Ευφημίας. Πάντως όσο αφορά τον Ιουστίνο, καταγόταν από τη Θράκη και προηγουμένως ήταν βοσκός προβάτων και χοίρων. Κατόπιν έγινε στρατιώτης, έπειτα κόμης και στο τέλος βασιλιάς το 518 μ.Χ. Είχε δε γυναίκα κάποια Λουπικία, που την έκανε Αύγουστο και μετονόμασε Ευφημία. Όταν πέθανε η γυναίκα του αυτή, πήρε άλλη με το όνομα Θεοδώρα.
