Η μνήμη του αναφέρει στον Συναξαριστή Delehaye με τη σημείωση ότι ασκήτευσε στον Όλυμπο της Βιθυνίας. Πρόκειται για τον Ιωάννη τον μοναχό (919 - 944 μ.Χ.) που υπήρξε γνωστός για την αγιότητα της ζωής του επί Ρωμανού του Λεκαπηνού, που ο αυτοκράτορας αυτός, μετά την πτώση του, έστειλε σφραγισμένη επιστολή σ' αυτόν τον Ιωάννη και εξομολογείτο τις αμαρτίες του.
