Ο Όσιος Ζώσιμος καταγόταν από τη Σικελία. Οι ευσεβείς γονείς του είχαν ένα κτήμα κοντά στο μοναστήρι της Αγίας Λουκίας, και ο μικρός γιος τους γρήγορα αγαπήθηκε από τους εκεί μοναχούς για την αφοσίωση του στα θεία. Ο ηγούμενος μάλιστα του μοναστηρίου φρόντισε ο μικρός να μάθει γράμματα και όταν μεγάλωσε, ο ίδιος πλέον δίδασκε τα θεολογικά γράμματα. Μετά τον θάνατο του ηγουμένου έγινε αυτός διάδοχος του, διότι θεωρήθηκε από τον επίσκοπο Συρακουσών αξιότερος όλων. Υπήρξε τόσο μεγάλη η ευσεβής δράση του, ώστε μετά τον θάνατο του επισκόπου Συρακουσών, η φωνή του λάου τον έφερε στο επισκοπικό αξίωμα. Από τη νέα του θέση, υπηρέτησε λαμπρά τη διδασκαλία του θείου λόγου καθώς και όλα τα ποιμαντικά του καθήκοντα. Και έτσι άγια αφού έζησε, απεβίωσε ειρηνικά σε ηλικία 50 ετών.
