Ο Όσιος Βενδιμιανός γεννήθηκε στα μέσα του 5ου αιώνα, από γονείς ευγενείς και πλούσιους, στη Μεγάλη Μυσία (αρχαία χώρα της Βορειοδυτικής Μικράς Ασίας). Μόναζε στο όρος το ονομαζόμενο της Οξείας και μαθήτευε κοντά στον όσιο Αυξέντιο «του εν τω Βουνώ» (τιμάται 14 Φεβρουαρίου). Μετά τον θάνατο του διδασκάλου του αυτού, ο Βενδιμιανός μπήκε στη σχισμή μιας μεγάλης πέτρας, όπου έκτισε μικρό κελί και έμεινε εκεί 42 ολόκληρα χρόνια με αυστηρότατη άσκηση. Αυτό είχε σαν αποτέλεσμα να επιτύχει μεγάλες νίκες κατά των δαιμόνων. Όταν κατάλαβε να πλησιάζει το τέλος της ζωής του, το έτος 512 μ.Χ., διηγήθηκε σ' αυτόν που έγραψε τον βίο του οσίου Αυξεντίου τα της ζωής του, και αφού γονάτισε παρέδωσε την όσια ψυχή του.
