Ο Άγιος Ιερομάρτυς Βαρσιμαίος ήταν εκείνος που κατήχησε και βάπτισε τον Άγιο Σάρβηλο και την αδελφή του Αγία Βεβαία (βλέπε ίδια ημέρα). Για τον λόγο αυτό καταγγέλθηκε στον ηγεμόνα Λυσία. Ενώπιον του ηγεμόνα ομολόγησε με παρρησία την πίστη του στον Χριστό. Για την ομολογία του αυτή ο ηγεμόνας έδωσε εντολή στους στρατιώτες να χτυπήσουν ανηλεώς τον Άγιο και να τον φυλακίσουν. Λίγο αργότερα, με την προσωρινή κατάπαυση των διωγμών, ο Άγιος απελευθερώθηκε και επανήλθε στην Εκκλησία του δοξολογώντας το Όνομα του Αγίου Θεού.
