Ο Άγιος Μένανδρος γεννήθηκε στην Ερμούπολη της Αιγύπτου και ήταν στρατιωτικός. Μαρτύρησε αφού τον έσυραν γυμνό, πάνω σε αιχμηρές πέτρες κατά τους χρόνους του αυτοκράτορα Ιουλιανού του Παραβάτου (361-363 μ.Χ.). (Στον Λαυριωτικό Κώδικα 170 η μνήμη του φέρεται κοινή μετά του Αγ. Σαβίνου (βλ. 16 Μαρτίου) την 28η Μαρτίου).
