წმიდა დიმიტრი როსტოველი (ერისკაცობაში - დანიელ ტუპტალო) 1651 წელს დაიბადა დაბა მაკაროვოში, კიევის მახლობლად, კეთილმსახური კაზაკის ოჯახში. 1662 წელს წმიდანი კიევო-მოგილიოვის კოლეგიაში მიაბარეს. პირველად სწორედ აქ გამოვლინდა მისი არაჩვეულებრივი ნიჭი: დანიელმა საფუძვლიანად შეისწავლა ბერძნული და ლათინური ენები და რიგი კლასიკური მეცნიერებებისა. 1668 წლის 9 ივლისს ნეტარი ბერად აღიკვეცა და წმიდა დიდმოწამე დიმიტრი თესალონიკელის პატივსაცემად დიმიტრი დაარქვეს. 1675 წლის გაზაფხულამდე იგი კიევის წმიდა კირილეს სახელობის მონასტერში მოღვაწეობდა. 1675 წლის 23 მაისს ჩერნიგოველმა მთავარეპისკოპოსმა ლაზარემ დიმიტრი მღვდელ-მონაზვნად აკურთხა. რამდენიმე წლის მანძილზე ნეტარი მამა უკრაინის, ლიტვისა და ბელორუსიის სხვადასხვა ტაძრებსა და მონასტრებში აღასრულებდა ღვთისმსახურებას.
