Der Ehrw. Nikitas wurde in Cässaria, in Bythinien, geboren. Seiner Mutter starb nach den 8. Tag seines Geburt, der Vater wurde Mönch, und Nikitas sollte bei seiner Großmutter erzogen werden. In seiner Jugend wurde er Mönch, und einige Jahre später Priester im Kloster in Medikia. Nach dem Tod des ehrw. Josef wurde der hl. Nikitas von Brüdern zum Klostervorsteher gewählt. Unter der Herrschaft des Kaisers Leo den Armeniern (813-820), der die Verehrung der hl. Ikonen verfolgte, wurde der hl. Nikitas ins Exil, auf Insel der hl. Glyceria, verbannt. Dort lebte er unter schweren Bedingungen 6 Jahre. Der Kaiser Michael der Stotterer befreite den Heiligen, aber er starb nur wenige Zeit darauf, im Jahre 824.
