Der heilige Antonios trat nach dem Tode seiner Mutter, 12 Jahre alt, in ein Kloster ein. Später wurde er Vorsteher desselben Klosters und nahm sein Vater als Mönch auf. Im Jahre 893 wurde er zum Patriarchen von Konstantinopel erwählt, und wirkte mit dem Kaiser Leo dem Weisen viel für das Wohl der Kirche von Konstantinopel. Er starb in Frieden im Jahre 895.
