Der hl. Cyprian stammte aus Antiochia, (heut. Antakya), und war zuerst ein heidnischer Priester. Justina war Christin und galt als eine schöne Frau. Doch alle Heiratsanträge lehnte sie ab, da sie sich mit Christus verlobt habe. Der abgewiesene Cyprian versuchte, sie mit allen Mitteln seiner Zauberkunst für sich zu gewinnen, sie aber widerstand allen Versuchungen und bewahrte sich jeweils mit dem Zeichen des hl. Kreuzes, das sie über sich machte. Cyprian erkannte seine Ohnmacht, bekehrte sich, wurde getauft, dann Diakon und schließlich Bischof von Antiochia. Durch die Diokletianische Verfolgung wurden beide ergriffen und um 280 nach Nikomedia gebracht. Nach schweren Marterungen wurden beide Heilige mit dem Schwert enthauptet, mit ihnen starb als Martyrer ein Soldat Namens Theoktist, überzeugt vom Christlichen Glauben der beiden Martyrer. Es geschah im Jahre 304 in Nikomedia (heut. Izmit).
