Außer dem Kleide der Mutter Gottes (Gedenktag: 15. (2.) Juli) wird unter den orthodoxen Christen auch ihr Gürtel bewahrt und verehrt. Er war, nach einer Überlieferung, von der Mutter Gottes dem hl. Apostel Thomas anvertraut, und von ihm auf andere Gläubige übergeben. Diese Feier wurde gestiftet zum Andenken an die wunderbare Heilung der Kaiserin Zöe, der Frau des byzantinischen Kaisers Leo des Weisen, im 10. Jahrhundert.
