Er war ein Neffe des Khans der Goldenen Horde Bergaj und war anwesend, als der hl. Bischof Kirill von Rostov bei seinem Besuch in der Horde 1253 von den Wundern erzählte, die sich am Grabe des hl. Leontij ereignet hatten. Als kurz darauf der Sohn Bergajs erkrankte, rief man den Rostover Bischof, auf dessen Gebete das Kind genas. Daraufhin bat der junge Tatare Kirill, ihn mitzunehmen, was auch geschah. In Rostov wurde er auf den Namen Petr getauft und heiratete. Er zeichnete sich durch Frömmigkeit und Freigebigkeit aus. Am Nero-See errichtete er ein Kloster, in das er nach dem Tode seiner Frau eintrat und wo er 1290 in hohem Alter starb.
