In Rom geb., siedelte er schon in seiner Jugend nach Konstantinopel über, wo er seine erste Bildung bekam. Gern besuchte er die Kirchen und widmete nach dem Tode der Eltern sein großes Vermögen dem Bau von Kirchen und der Unterstützung der Armen. Bald weihte ihn der Patriarch zum Priester und machte ihn zum Ökonom der großen Kirche. Er führte ein dürftiges Leben, ging in alten Kleidern einher und versagte sich alles. Im höheren Alter durchwandelte er nachts die Straßen, und wenn er einen Toten fand, der unversorgt dort lag, so waschte und beerdigte er ihn. Er starb in der zweiten Hälfte des 5. Jahrh. (472-474) und ward bestattet in der Kirche des hl. Johannes des Vorläufers.
