Der hl. Justinian war Slawe von Geburt, und als oströmischer Kaiser erfolgreich in den Kriegen gegen seine Feinde. Er war auch ein frommer Mensch und wahrer Eiferer für orthodoxes Christentum, und ein tüchtiger Gesetzgeber. Als Staatsoberhaupt hat er das 4. Ökumenische Kirchenkonzil zusammengeführt. Von ihm wurde das Lied "O Du, eingeborener ..." für die Liturgie verfasst (die hört man in der orthodoxen Liturgie auch heute). Er starb friedlich im Jahre 565.
