Der ehrw. Theodor wurde im Jahre 759 in Konstantinopel (heut. Istanbul in der Türkei) geboren. Um 800 gründete er das Kloster Studion in Konstantinopel, das ein geistiger Mittelpunkt der Ostkirche wurde. Theodor förderte das Mönchtum und die Bilderverehrung, deshalb wurde er dreimal verbannt. Der ehrw. Theodor starb am 11. November 826 in Akrita auf den Prinzeninseln vor Konstantinopel.
