Toinen Vigil Pyhittäjä Benedictus Nursialainen Ensimmäiset kristilliset luostariyhteisöt muodostuivat Egyptin erämaahan, kun Antonius Suuren (251-356) ohjeiden mukaisesti pyhä Pakomius (286-346) perusti sinne munkkiyhteisön.
