Ο Άγιος Αγάπιος καταγόταν από την Καισαρεία της Παλαιστίνης και διέπρεψε για τη σεμνότητα της ζωής του. Συνελήφθη από τον βασιλιά Μαξιμίνο (311 - 313 μ.Χ.), επί δούκα Ουρβανού, για το λόγο ότι ήταν χριστιανός. Τότε τον διαπόμπευσαν μέσα στο στάδιο και στη συνέχεια τον άφησαν για τροφή στα άγρια θηρία. Αυτά τον κατασπάραξαν, αλλά τον άφησαν μισοπεθαμένο. Σ' αυτή την κατάσταση τον έριξαν στη φυλακή και την επόμενη μέρα τον έπνιξαν στη θάλασσα.
