Ο Άγιος Νεομάρτυς Αβραάμιος καταγόταν από την Βουλγαρία και ζούσε στην Ρωσία. Αρχικά ήταν Μουσουλμάνος, αλλά όταν άκουσε το κήρυγμα του Ευαγγελίου ασπάσθηκε την Ορθόδοξη πίστη. Ήταν φιλάνθρωπος και ελεήμων προς τους φτωχούς. Στην πόλη Βολγάρα, στις κατώτερες εκβολές του ποταμού Βόλγα, ο Άγιος Αβραάμιος άρχισε να διδάσκει τους συμπατριώτες του για τον αληθινό Θεό. Τότε τον συνέλαβαν και προσπάθησαν να τον εξαναγκάσουν να αρνηθεί τον Χριστό. Ο Άγιος, όμως, έμεινε σταθερός στην ομολογία της πατρώας ευσέβειας. Έτσι, το έτος 1229 μ.Χ., τεμάχισαν τον Άγιο και έπειτα απέκοψαν την τίμια κεφαλή του. Οι Ρώσοι Χριστιανοί, που ζούσαν στην πόλη, ενταφίασαν το ιερό λείψανο του Αγίου στο χριστιανικό κοιμητήριο.
